**Thank you for considering a custom painting! This page explains my commission process and provides some examples of my commissioned work. **
I accept commissions based on my availability and in my area of expertise (landscapes, landscapes with architecture, etc.) Minimum size for commissioned work is 12x16". At this time, all commissions are executed in oil.
Commissioned paintings require more of an investment in time and customization, so they are priced at a higher rate than my existing paintings. Pricing is based on both the size and the complexity of the work requested, with oversized paintings not only requiring the most time, but sometimes also requiring bespoke fabrication, specialty equipment, and professional art handlers to help fulfill the shipping or delivery. If you would like to discuss your commission project, please fill out my commission inquiry form to get the ball rolling, and I will be happy to follow up with you!
After a discussion and verbal agreement on the details of the commission, I will provide a simple commission contract that lays out the terms (scope of the work, payments, and any deadlines agreed to, etc.) I ask for a 50% deposit of the painting price to start the work. This would be done by email invoice for secure payment online. If drawing from a number of images or concepts derived from photos I may prepare a sketch to scale to share before I start the actual painting, to help the client envision the composition. (If it is a single view where I’m just interpreting a single photo reference, a sketch may not be needed.)
After the contract is approved and deposit received, I can get started. When the painting is completed, I will send photos for the client's feedback and final approval. I can make one or two modest adjustments if needed, preferably while the oil paint is still fresh and “open”. On final approval, the remaining balance is due prior to shipment or delivery. That's it in a nutshell!
