France is such an amazing country filled with diversity and great beauty. The region of Provence abounds with fields of poppies, sunflowers, and lavender bursting with fragrance and color. Everywhere you turn, there are hundreds of paintings, waiting to be made! Equally beautiful is the region of Normandy, full of soft rolling hills, willow trees and the biggest roses I've ever seen! I had the great privilege in 2003 to paint in Giverny en plein air. I received special permission to paint in Monet's garden on a day when it is closed to the general public, and the experience is one that I will never forget!

About the Painting:

This painting was done on location, (en plein air) on one of my recent travels to the French countryside of the Lot Valley. The Lot Valley is a beautiful region located in the Southwestern part of France, and the springtime was a wonderful time to be painting in this region. The air was still cool, but there were wildflowers everywhere, including poppies and wild roses and orchids. I hope you enjoy viewing this painting as much as I enjoyed making it!
